Mtron PRO-7000 Series Flash Solid State Disks

Mtron PRO Flash SSDs linear read at 120 megabytes per second, and linear write at 90 megabytes per second. The composite linear speed is faster than a 15,000 RPM SCSI disk. The MOBI product also has a random read rate of approximately >12,000 four kilobyte blocks per second. This is almost 60 times faster than a 15,000 RPM SAS drive. In our tests, the PRO random writes at about 130 four-kilobyte blocks a second. This is somewhat faster than the random write speed of a 10,000 RPM SATA drive. From a pure performance perspective, applications that are read intensive will see disk throughput nearly 30x the speed of a typical server hard drive. For update intensive applications, the Mtron PRO series performs somewhat better than a 15K SCSI drive. Combined with MFT, Mtron PRO series drives random write at ~20,000 4K IOPS or over 100 times faster than the bare drive, producing a drive normally 50x better than a 15k rpm SAS drive in normal use.

Mtron PRO drives are manufactured using high-reliability single-level chip Flash technology, are made with an extremely rugged machined metal case, and come with a 5 year warranty commencing from date-of-manufacture. PRO drives are available in both a 2.5 inch form factor suitable for most laptops, and a 3.5 inch form factor suitable for desktops and servers.

Aggregate IOPS without MFT 392 Higher is better. A single 15,000 rpm SAS drive has a value of 250, and a 7,200 rpm SATA drive rates at 70. Click here for explanation of calculation methodology.

Thruput per day is based upon an average data size of 10.66kb and a read/write mix of 70% reads and 30% writes. The values shown for the 7,200 and 15,000 rpm Hard Disks are the maximum possible attainable values if these drives are run at 100% duty cycle 7x24. Values for the flash media are calculated as described here. Here, the limit to throughput is not time, but rather the number of safely available write cycles based upon a goal-life of at least five years.
